This special dyed horsehide jacket is inspired by the Type I jacket from WWII. Treated with a traditional Japanese dying technique called Kakishibu uses aged persimmon tannins, with “Kakishibu” literally meaning “persimmon astringency.” Kakishibu is also known as Taiyo-zome (sun-dye) because of its photosensitivity – areas exposed to light will become darker and more vibrant, eventually reaching a true persimmon hue. This increased photosensitivity will cause this Kakishibu horsehide to age faster than most natural vegetable tan leathers. Proudly made in Japan.
